Soup Mee Suah @ Tang Shi Fu @ Paradigm Mall (29th June 2013)

I only had Tang Shi Fu once in my life, and that was a few years back. The dishes I had back then was but a distant memory, and given the fact that Heart* has not tried it, we decided to give it a go at Paradigm mall's branch.

The variety of Mee suah seems to be signature dishes in the restaurant, so we each ordered different ones.

My rice wine Mee Suah with Black Fungus and a Chicken Drumstick. The taste of the broth was acceptable on its own, but the noodles seemed to have absorbed the strong alcohol flavor that went straight into my nose and it felt really terrible in each bite. 2/5. MYR 13.9

Hearts* dried scallop and Chicken Drumstick Mee Suah. The broth had a faint herbal taste to it. I was half expecting it to be herbish, but rather it was bland. 2/5. MYR 16.9
Heart* ordered a jug of Sour plum juice to wash it all down, which cost MYR 9.9 and extremely pricey in my opinion.

Coupled with the starter (Which consisted of some pickled/salted fruit slicea), and 2 packs of wet napkins (Which we have forgotten to use!), the total damage came to about MYR 54++... which was totally NOT WORTHED IT.

It was Hearts* first and last trip to Tang Shi Fu there and then, and I shared the exact same sentiment.

Late Night Dessert Cravings @ Secret Recipe Centrepoint

My sweet tooth was bugging me at the late hour, so I decided to venture to a nearby establishment that serves something sweet. Of all the choices, it boiled down to Secret Recipe. My first was Pacific Coffee @ Paradigm mall but the place closes at 10pm.

Secret Recipe was actually a detour from McDonalds Centrepoint. Mc Ds was crowded hence I decided to venture to SR just next to it.

Ordered 2 slices of cakes that we have not tried before.

Durian Cheese cake MYR 7.5 4/5.

Green Tea cheese cake MYR7.5 3/5

Overall the Durian Cheesecake turned out to be the choice cake of the night. With a strong durian fragrance and a hint of cream cheese, the blend was just right.

Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh @ PJ Old Town

Yumz! A stark contrast to yesterday's dinner in terms of pricing, and yummeh-ness. Literally half the cost of yesterday's, while doubled the satisfaction!

As usual we were in our 'where to eat' dilemma, and one thing led to another, we ended up in PJ Old Town.

All mine, and all lean Bak Kut Teh. Portion is REALLY huge and at MYR 9 per pax.

The ever embarrassing V-sign pose.  =P Heart* is happy with his Half Fat Half Lean Bak Kut Teh.
Siu Pak Choi in Oyster Sauce
Tak Foo Pok and Yau Zha Guai at the side

Mushrooms!
Where the meal is prepared.
The bill came up to about MYR 43 (Including 2 cans of 100 plus). Well worthed our time, and appetites! 4/5.

Dinner @ Din Tai Fung @ eCurve

Our first time trying out the place. Din Tai Fung is known for its delectable Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) that comes in a few variety and Ramen.

We ordered the following, more like... over-ordered:

1) 8-piece Original Xiao Long Bao

2) 6-piece Crab Xiao Long Bao- Being allergic to crab meat, I left this all to Heart*

3) Cha-jiang Ramen- Dry noodles with minced pork meat, green beans, and some other condiments. Salty. Mediocre.

4) Pork chop fried rice- The pork chop was nice and juicy, but the fried rice was extremely mediocre. Lacks the Wok hei I crave from fried rice.

5) Clear chicken soup Ramen- Boy, they weren't kidding by making it clear. The soup was bland, and the boiled chicken... dry.

Item 1, 3 and 4 are their Signature dishes, but only Item 1 stands out, and admittedly, nothing to scream about either.

Total bill came up to about MYR 88 for 2 person. Really damaging for such a mediocre fair. I dare say I get MUCH MORE satisfaction from Kim Gary's dishes, and they cost a lot less too.

2/5. Would I come back? I don't see any reason why.

Wan Tan Mee @ Annie 1 @ Damansara Utama (Uptown)- 4th June 2013

The usual question came up, where do we have dinner? We were both tired of the usual place and since the place came highly recommended by a friend, as well as having all-round great reviews, Annie 1 @ Damansara Utama came to mind.

*Heart and I tried were out of luck last weekend as the place was packed to the brim on Saturday morning, and was closed on Sunday evening. Fortunately for us, it was open just now and with a comfortable crowd.

I am definitely not a coffee person, but the 'cham peng' (Iced Coffee tea mix) seemed to hit the spot that time.

*Heart ordered the basic Char siew wan tan noodles. I had a taste of the char siew and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered the oyster sauce white chicken noodles, which I have forgotten to snap a pic of, and it tasted good too.

After tasting our plates of noodles, we both agree that they are springy and flavorful. Definitely opens up one's appetite.

We ordered a side dish: 10 pieces of Wan tan. Very flavorful, both the broth and the dumplings.

I was aiming for that professional foodie shot, where the dumplings are being  scooped up with the soup spoon and obviously I failed miserably. haha. The dumpling skin was breaking off, and I didn't get a shot of the spoon.

We shared a 2nd plate of noodles, Pork ribs. It was alright.
We ordered a butter-kaya toast too, which came out nice.

Overall the place is fine, I dare say it's one of the better Wan tan noodle place in the PJ area, but in my opinion nothing to scream about, and most certainly not worth a long wait if there's a huge queue preceding us.

4/5.
