Bangkok 2008 Day 80: Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant

Yeah I know... Cabbages and Condoms restaurant. Sounds vulgar huh? But it's intriguing nonetheless. Well most of you know in today's world, Sex sells... very well. So I am sure the name attracts lots of attention! Including a curious me.

In the afternoon, my colleague was talking about this place that her friend's mentioned. So we decided to give it a go. It serves a wide variety of Thai food.

This place is located in Sukhumvit Soi 12. Don't let the dark entrance into Soi 12 fool you. It's located deeper inside.

Now this is an interesting notice board. Showing the various acts considered to be safe sex.

Lol...

The various types of condoms... most are jokes.

The gift shop.

The open space restaurant. There's also indoors section. But colleagues opted for open space, better atmosphere.

Captain Condom. Noticed that his suit is made entirely of condoms?

Ms. Lula Le Condom. beautiful rubber dress.

There's this small roofed stage where a musician was playing the Ranat ek lek/Ranat thum lek (Some form of percurssion instrument of Thai origin).

Condoms lamp.

The upstairs (smoking area). Do you notice the Mountain mist plate? Lol. The supposed mist is actually fans blowing very fine droplets of water.

Free Internet access at Captain Condom's lounge. Coowl huh?

Upstairs.

The gift shop sells condom flowers.

We ordered... Tofu/seeweed/pork soup. This dish is highly recommended. Very tasty.

... soft shell crab... I skipped this naturally.

... lemongrass chicken... highly recommended.

I think this is asam fish. It's the clear soup type. Highly recommended also.

Love the Bali curtains.

For dessert, we each get a complimentary chocolate + coconut flavored condoms.

This was on display. Condoms sold in China.

Basically this restaurant in a way promotes safe sex other than standing up as a restaurant. The company managing it has resorts (Under the same name) opened in few other places. Including Patayya.

They also manage a foundation for the rural poor. Naming it Population & Community Development Association (PDA) where they respond to current social and economic dilemmas in rural areas.

Overall, good place. Recommended.
