Bangkok 2008 Day 44: Boat Dinner at Dairy Queen Riverside Restaurant

I cannot believe it that it's been more than a month of stay in lovely Bangkok. Upon our return from a short trip back to Malaysia, we had dinner plans made with the Satyam team who are working at the TOT client site.

A member of the team was serving his last day at the client site so I guess the opportunity for a get together was either then or never.

The restaurant we were headed is called: Dairy Queen Riverside Restaurant. Which offers a wide variety of local/foreign cuisine and you can take them all up into a boat/mini cruise, eat and be merry while delighting at the nice evening scenery by the Chao Praya river.

Details of the restaurant:

Dairy Queen Riverside (แดรี่ควีนริมน้ำ) 27/4 Mu 3, Rattanathibet Road at the foot of Phra Nang Klao Bridge, Tel: 0 2921 8670-5 (Daily Dinner Cruises from Phra Nangklao bridge (North of Chao Praya) to Sang Hi Bridge (South of Chao Praya), departure time at 8 pm. ; B 90/person and B100 /person on Friday and Saturday

We left Chaang Wattana at about 6pm and headed north of Bangkok to the Nonthaburi province.

Chaang Wattana, very looooooooooooooooooooooong and busy highway.

Entrance to the restaurant.

Some info, showing the various sceneries to take note of while the boat sails south of the Chao Praya river.

Lots of prawns/sea food offered.

Frozen crabs, lai liu ha (Pissing prawns) etc...

The restaurant on the pier.

One of the boats ready to set sail.

Close view of the outer hull. By the way, this boat comes equiped with karoke station.

Notice an elephant head in front of the boat. Fake one of course.

Our boat. It's no where as beautifully decorated as the one above on the outside. But it certainly is more spacious.

If not mistaken this is the Phra Nangklao bridge. Start check point. We had to do a u-turn to travel south.

The team.

Some other riverside pier restaurant.

Lol... cannot remember what this bridge is called.

Neither can I identify this...

Err... not sure what modern temple this is. Not even the Thai colleagues can tell... Prolly not so famous.

While sailing south. We could see the Grand Palace on the left. Very beautifully lid at night.

Overtaking some other cruise. I recalled me and 2 other colleagues yelled out greetings to them. And they responded! Marvelous moment.

Finally, our end point is when we reached Wat Arun (On the right hand side- Marvelous piece of architecture). The boat will stop the engine, letting the current take us a little further South. Then it's the U-turn back to where we came from.

On our way back, we had a better view of the Grand palace.

The entire boat ride took almost 2 hours plus. It was quite fun, the food was great, price was great. Company was great.

I would definitely recommend this trip.
